Load 2, The Load series enquires about the hybrid identity of the Mexico - United States border, specifically between the states of Northeastern Mexico and Texas. Two aspects define the particularities of this area: on the one hand, we have the extreme geographic conditions, from magnificent to inhospitable; while on the other, we have the visible and invisible dynamics of transit and exchange. Due to its permeability and lack of definition, this territory operates as a limbo, in which permanence becomes an absurdity.

Clinging to Socialism

This photograph is part of an ongoing project and was taken in San Antonio de Los Baños, Cuba. A child seems to look ahead toward her future. Yet, she still holds onto the safety of her grandfather's shoulder, whose melancholy gaze shows the weight of his entire life. I chose this very photogram for its CT's holes: both characters look stampled together, united by their blood ties and affection. It made me think of the Cubans' attachment to their past history, as well as their need of change. Hence the picture's title: "Clinging to Socialism".

Yard to Home Conversion, one from a personal, fine art project, January 2012. Over the past five years, almost seven million nearly identical homes have been built in remote agrarian land throughout Mexico. In neighborhoods of 1,000 to 120,000, endless rows of 300-square-foot homes have reduced the building of communities to the mere construction of dormitory housing. This type of urbanization, now prevalent in my country, marks a profound change in our collective experience as citizens of a broader world. This photography project explores the effects of these neighborhoods on culture and society, and their role in forming the perspective of the younger generations who live in these neighborhoods through key formative years.

Dancemaker: Ángeles Piqué, Photomovesit, what?, Photomovesit is the development of a method and instrumentation of a photographic technique focused in the body of the photographer. A flexible body, in contact, in a dance; where the sense of touch over sight is the priority in the level of a new photographic language. With the camera away from the body, the composition terms and of language are subverted in interrelation and contact of the photographer with another. However the technique suggested can be used with models, actors and people in general.

Grave Images, Chinquiquira Mausoleum, Colombia, In the towns of Girón, Barichara, and Morales nearly every family has been touched by the ongoing war between conservative and liberal ideologies. My colleague, Kim Yunez and I traveled to Colombia to explore the expressions of faith as manifested in memorials, grave markers, and church structures. Adjacent to each church is "la tierra sagrada" reserved for cemeteries and mausoleums. These images are expressions concerning the ways in which people deal with grief, sorrow, and death.

As in the country's other metropolitan centers, a veritable real estate boom is taking place in the city of São Paulo and new buildings are being erected faster and faster in virtually all its neighbourhoods, constantly altering the urban landscape. However, while these new constructions are seen as beacons of development, abandoned buildings or those being torn down are becoming shadows of themselves.

The Dynasty of the Midwives of Buenaventura

The Dynasty of the Midwives of Buenaventura, Colombia. Traditional midwives of the Pacific coastal region of Colombia, who carry on the natural midwifery practices of their African ancestors, accompanying mothers through the whole process of gestation, before and after the birth. They work with hundreds of natural plants that grow in the rich biodiversity of the Pacific coast. These midwives, who are organized in the Association of United Midwives of the Pacific (ASOPARUPA) attend to hundreds of women who have no access to hospitals or who prefer the services of these traditional providers.
